What is PVC flooring?

PVC flooring is known as a versatile flooring product for many interior and exterior projects. Although commonly used, many people are still wondering about the quality and safety of plastic flooring. So what is PVC flooring? What types of PVC boards are there? Is it user-friendly?

PVC floors are planks that are shaped into rectangular bars or square panels. They are made from PVC particles that create a solid structure. They are used as flooring, wall, ceiling and decorative materials. Surface can be smooth, wood grain, stone or carpet,... for a variety of options.

PVC FLOOR STRUCTURE

PVC flooring is made up of 100% PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride). This is the first plastic to be born, starting a new era for modern industrial materials. PVC plastic is produced and consumed with the third largest amount in the world after PE and PP. Polyvinyl Chloride is created from the artificial synthesis of Vinyl Chloride when exposed to sunlight, they exist as a white or yellow powder. This PVC layer will play the role of shaping the core and creating rigidity for the floor.

The decor film will depend on the textured paper layer, creating different surfaces for users to choose from. The decor film layer will be covered with a layer of glossy paint to protect against scratches, fading, and affecting the aesthetics of the floorboard. Some types of high-quality PVC imitation wood flooring will be embossed on the surface to create slip resistance for users.

TYPES OF POPULAR PVC FLOORS CURRENTLY

PVC flooring has many types for users to choose from. With a relatively simple structure and an uncomplicated production process, wooden floors can be changed more flexibly than other flooring materials for a variety of designs. Wood floors can be divided into the following types.

Homogeneous PVC floors

Homogeneous PVC floors come as an economical solution because of their long-term life and therefore they are good in high-traffic and industrial areas such as hospitals, schools, libraries, supermarkets, warehouses and so on.

Surface polyurethane coating prevents the dirt from sticking onto the surface and makes the cleaning of the floor easier. Homogeneous PVC flooring is practical and economical but does not meet very high aesthetic standards.

Electrical conductive PVC

Electrical conductive PVC flooring is homogeneous PVC flooring able to disperse static electricity out of the room. Floors like these protect people from static electricity influences created by machines placed in the building such as computer centers, friction machines etc. Electrical conductive PVC floors also protect highly sensitive equipment used in electro industry, medicine, biochemistry and chemistry from static electricity. By European standards electrical conductive PVC floors have to be installed in hospital surgery rooms and intensive care units.

ADVANTAGES OF PVC FLOORING

PVC board is a product line that was born with the optimal utility in design and use. Reduce costs, and at the same time with a variety of designs suitable for the majority of customers. This type of board has the following outstanding advantages:

  • Prolonged rainy weather leads to high humidity in the air, which will make the paving materials often soak up water and become moldy. Therefore, using PVC flooring for tiling will be the most effective solution to the problem of moisture and water leaks. Polyvinyl Chloride vinyl flooring is 100% water resistant, so it will completely avoid the problem of moldy floors.
  • With PVC particles being melted, concentrated and pressed at high pressure, it will minimize the ability to expand and shrink, causing unsightly deformation of the floor. When using Polyvinyl Chloride plastic flooring, you will not have to worry about the floor being warped, concave affecting the use process.
  • In particular, plastic flooring is a non-conductive material, so it is very safe during use. With a surface designed with a transparent protective layer that is resistant to fire spread, it brings surprising effectiveness to plastic floors.

DISADVANTAGES OF PVC FLOORING

PVC flooring has many advantages that are suitable for users. But there are disadvantages as well:

  • PVC flooring can withstand water, but the glue layer of glued vinyl flooring is easy to peel off when exposed to water. Therefore, glued flooring can only be installed in cool and dry locations. However, this disadvantage also has a simple solution that is to switch to using a plastic floor that is locked for locations exposed to water such as bathrooms, terraces, ...
  • The board is made of plastic, so it is not as strong and thick as the wooden floor. Therefore, the bearing capacity is not high. You can fix it by increasing the thickness of the floor foam to reduce the impact on the surface, or cushioning rubber pads on the feet of heavy items on the floor.
  • Due to the priority of low cost, surface printing technology has not reached the level of sophistication and sharpness like high-end laminate flooring. The decorative surface of PVC board is still translucent, the color is a bit pale, so it is not appreciated by many high-end customers. However, plastic flooring still meets the needs of the general customer segment in the market.

PVC flooring is a user-friendly material both in terms of health, quality and price. This is also a product that has the presence of calcium carbonate powder in production to help reduce costs.
